Laura McCafferty

Laura Mccafferty is a textiles artist who blends textiles and illustration to create snapshots of social events and environments with warmth, sensitivity, and humour. Her technique of combining applique, stitch, surface pattern, print and illustration is my main inspiration and the reason for my love of surface pattern and printed textiles.
Laura McCafferty’s work is truely incredible, these few images really don’t do them justice. Having seen her work up close at exhibitions I can honestly say I have never seen something so intriate and detailed yet simple at the same time. Her work is flawless, yet captures images from every day life which holds its many flaws

Tamar Morgendorff

Tamar Morgendorff is a textiles designer I discovered in Selvedge magazine. Based in New York, Tamar creates unique and poetic designs. In her Brooklyn workshop, she mixes linen, mohair, tweeds but also vintage fabrics to design bird nests and birdcages, aquariums and refined little animals to name but a few.
I can’t help but fell that the bird houses would look stunning on the wall of a nursery along with the bird cage hanging above the cot as a mobile..what a perfect gift this would make.
Her crafty creations are available to buy online at Selvedge…

UAL:Chelsea-Textile Design & Print Workshop

I would love to have the opportunity to take up a course such as the one being offered by University of the Arts London at the Chelsea campus. There are a number of short courses I would like to attend including this textile design & print workshop. The chance to expand my portfolio along with gaining invaluable skills at a course like this is something I am going to look further into for 2013.
Who should attend
Anyone interested in studying for a career in textile design. Perhaps you are looking to apply for a BA or MA in Textile Design and need to develop your skills to add to your portfolio?
Course Detail
On this fabric design workshop for textiles, we’ll guide you in interpreting your ideas and translating your designs into print. You’ll experiment with a range of techniques to produce a sophisticated textile design, and ultimately screen-printed and or dyed textiles. You will be introduced to a range of methods, which may include flocking and foiling, cross-dyeing, colour discharge, metallic binders and heat transfer.

Course Outcomes
You will leave having completed a collection of printed fabrics and products to add to your portfolio. You’ll also be able to use printroom facilities, including the transfer press-dye vats and screen exposure unit. Added to which, you’ll have an appreciation of colour, print techniques and dyes, and know how to mix colours in a number of different mediums.
